Biden May Have Played into Hands of Communist China With IRA

President Joe “Multiple Gaffes” Biden may well have played into the hands of Communist China and its state-backed tech companies. This is because of a clause in the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, national security experts have warned.

‘Shocking’ Traversing of the Law

The expert warnings point out the trillion-dollar Inflation Reduction Act contains provisions for electric vehicle subsidies funded with American taxpayer dollars. This could now be easily exploited by companies backed by the Chinese Communist Party, Fox News reported.

The warnings have come after Ford, America’s second-biggest car producer, announced last week a partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), a massive Chinese tech corporation backed by the Communist Party.

As part of the partnership, Ford and CATL plan to build a new factor for EV batteries in Michigan. The deal, however, would allow the Chinese company to get subsidized by the American taxpayer, even though the IRA’s subsidies were theoretically supposed to boost America’s domestic supply chains.

According to Robert O’Brien, former President Trump’s National Security Advisor in 2019-2021, Ford’s dealings with the CCP-backed corporation are “shocking.”

He emphasized America just had the episode with the Chinese spy balloon, which “traversed” the entire continental United States, violating its sovereignty. Against that backdrop, Ford decided it would be a great idea to partner with America’s “adversary” and “leading competitor.”

O’Brien noted the worst part may be precisely the fact that Ford and CATL seemed to be trying to exploit a “loophole” in the IRA, which would enrich the Chinese corporation with American taxpayer dollars.

He also denounced Ford and CATL’s alleged attempts to benefit at the expense of ordinary Americans as “a total perversion” of the IRA, which was supposed to “exclude the Chinese” by boosting America’s supply chains at home.

Ford Wants to Take Advantage of US to China’s Benefit

The former National Security Advisor said CATL was subservient to the Chinese communist regime because of its status under Beijing’s national security law.

What is more, the company’s CEO and founder, Robin Zeng, is connected to the United Front influence campaign of the Chinese Communist Party. O’Brien made the prognosis that the US government would likely intervene and dismantle the Ford-CATL partnership.

Commenting on the matter, a spokesperson for Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who co-authored the Inflation Reduction Act, revealed the lawmaker had some “serious questions” for Ford about their partnership with CATL.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who is the deputy head of the Intelligence Select Committee in the Senate, also voiced concerns about the Ford partnership.

The IRA bans EVs with assemblage or components from “foreign entities of concern” from getting a $7,500 tax credit for clean vehicles.

The law thus disqualifies Chinese-made EVs from it. A Brookings Institution report from July said China presently holds 78% of the global cell production capacity for electric vehicle batteries.

Craig Singleton, a China fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a nonpartisan nonprofit, said the IRA’s language was not “very clear.”

Companies such as Ford have decided to “test” it and see what they would allow getting away with when partnering with Chinese companies.
