Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) supported Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) in her difficult comeback fight in Virginia, highlighting Cheney’s third support of a House Democrat over their GOP opponents.
Since failing her own reelection effort in August, Cheney entered into only a few midterm elections to lend her endorsement – typically to provide criticism of contenders who have depended on assistance from erstwhile President Trump and reiterated his accusations that the 2020 election was rigged.
Cheney noted she and Spanberger haven’t always aligned on policy choices, but she stated that she was “honored” to endorse somebody committed to working from across the aisle.
Cheney stated they don’t concur on every subject, but she is absolutely sure Abigail is committed to serving her nation and her citizens and preserving the Constitution.

She said that Abigail’s challenger is spreading conspiracy notions, denying electoral results she disagrees with, and protecting the unreasonable.
She went on to explain we need our elected officials to be truthful, serious, and accountable, which is the reason she would advise voters in Virginia’s 7th District to endorse Abigail Spanberger.
Spanberger faces a tight reelection contest from Republican nominee Yesli Vega, whom Trump supported in late October. Despite saying the 2020 poll was “tampered with,” Vega stated she does not feel the 2020 election was blatantly stolen.

Spanberger is one of many who rose to stardom in 2018 after she attempted to differentiate herself from prominent Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, finally ousting veteran Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA).
Currently, Spanberger faces a tough battle against Vega in a district that might go in any direction; voters heavily supported President Joe Biden in 2020, but picked GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin in 2021.
The latest survey from RRH Elections puts the contest in a tight race, with both Spanberger and Vega reporting 47%.
The fight for Virginia’s 7th Congressional Seat has become one of the most crucial House races this year. A defeat for Democrats would only further strengthen Republican aspirations to seize control of the lower house next Congress.
Standing Against Trump
Cheney has been on the campaign path alongside a number of other Democrats in the last weeks of the election season.
She is drumming up support for a candidate for governor, Katie Hobbs in Arizona, as well as promoting Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Rep. Tim Ryan from Ohio against their Trump-backed rivals.
Cheney, one among two conservatives on the House committee hearing probing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and a member of 10 who voted to remove Trump, was among the past president’s most high-profile adversaries in the 2022 midterms election season.
The Wyoming Republican spent most of her campaign opposing Trump’s attempts to change the decision of the 2020 election, asking Independents and Democrats in the country to re-register to support her in the GOP race.
Nevertheless, she ended significantly behind Trump-backed Harriet Hageman, an erstwhile ally and unofficial counselor to Cheney.
Cheney is the fourth congressional Republican to lose her reelection campaign after pushing to impeach Trump, with just Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and David Valadao (R-CA) overcoming their primary battles.
The other four opted not to run for reelection.
