Maintenance workers at Mobile, Alabama’s Converse Reservoir Dam discovered a grenade-type improvised explosive device underwater during routine inspections on May 12. The FBI detonated the device after a multi-agency response involving five law enforcement teams. Officials called it an unprecedented threat to the city’s drinking water supply, raising urgent questions about infrastructure security nationwide.
Multi-Agency Response Neutralizes Threat
Divers surveying the dam for routine repairs spotted the explosive device underwater. The Mobile Area Water and Sewer System immediately contacted the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, which coordinated a response from the FBI Bomb Squad, Mobile Police Department Explosive Ordinance Detail, ALEA Bomb Squad, Daphne Search and Rescue Team, and the Gulf Coast Regional Maritime Response and Render-Safe Team. The agencies successfully retrieved and detonated the IED safely.
Critical Infrastructure Under Siege
MAWSS Director Bud McCrory emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating the device posed an unprecedented threat to the city’s water supply. He credited contractors, divers, and law enforcement with preventing serious damage or potential harm to individuals. The discovery raises alarming questions about how the explosive reached the dam and whether similar devices threaten other critical infrastructure sites across America.
No Suspects Named as Investigation Continues
Authorities have not identified any suspects or established a motive for placing the explosive at the reservoir. The Department of Homeland Security has been briefed on the incident, but neither DHS nor the FBI has issued public statements. McCrory stressed the need for comprehensive inspections of every major dam and piece of critical infrastructure nationwide, framing the issue as a matter of national security requiring immediate attention.
Wake-Up Call for Infrastructure Security
The incident exposes vulnerabilities in America’s water infrastructure that could be exploited by terrorists or hostile actors. The Converse Reservoir serves Mobile’s entire population, making it a high-value target. Security experts are calling for immediate vulnerability assessments at dams, bridges, and water treatment facilities nationwide. The fortunate discovery during routine maintenance underscores the importance of regular infrastructure inspections and robust security protocols at facilities essential to public safety.

Alabama! Nothing to see here. That is how they fish for dinner down there. That one was obviously a dud.
Let’s see who or what group should the focus be on. DemonRots, Illegals, Muslim anti Americans. That should just about cover the starting groups to investigate.
