Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche dismissed speculation that President Trump removed Pam Bondi from her position due to her handling of the Epstein files, calling such reports “simply not true.”
Blanche Addresses Removal Speculation
In an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime” Thursday, Blanche confronted claims that Trump’s dissatisfaction with Bondi stemmed from the controversial Epstein file release. “I have never heard President Trump say that the attorney general was — that anything that happened to her — had anything to do with the Epstein files,” he stated firmly. The dismissal marks Trump’s second major Cabinet change in recent months following DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s reassignment in early March.
Daily Mail Report Rejected
Blanche also rejected a Daily Mail report suggesting Bondi tipped off Representative Eric Swalwell about FBI plans to release files on Christine Fang, a Chinese spy previously linked to the California Democrat. “I would not believe that for a second — absolutely, positively not,” Blanche told Watters. He explained that he and Bondi jointly handled the Epstein file assignment and testified before Congress voluntarily weeks ago. The Justice Department has now released all Epstein-related documents, with redacted and unredacted versions available to lawmakers.
Moving Forward Without Epstein Focus
Blanche emphasized the Justice Department must move beyond the Epstein controversy. “I think that to the extent that the Epstein files was a part of the past year of this Justice Department, it should not be a part of anything going forward,” he declared. Trump announced Bondi’s departure via Truth Social, praising her as a “Great American Patriot” who will transition to private sector work. Blanche commended her service, noting “We are a better Justice Department, we are safer as a nation.”
Zeldin Considered As Replacement
Environmental Protection Agency Director Lee Zeldin reportedly emerged as a leading candidate to replace Bondi permanently. Sources familiar with White House discussions indicated conversations about the transition occurred during a Tuesday meeting. Trump designated Blanche, whom he called a “respected Legal Mind,” as interim Attorney General until a permanent successor is selected. Blanche expressed honor at the appointment and commitment to maintaining the Justice Department’s daily operations without disruption during the transition period.
