Concerns GROW After Brennan Comments on Internal Resistance Efforts (VIDEO)

Former CIA Director John Brennan confirmed on national television that government employees across the Department of Justice and intelligence agencies are actively working to resist President Trump’s directives, calling them a “legion” of professionals refusing to follow what they view as politically motivated orders.

CIA Director’s Televised Admission

During an MSNBC interview with host Nicolle Wallace, Brennan defended this resistance within federal agencies. Wallace questioned what mechanisms exist to slow down what she characterized as Trump’s politicization of law enforcement. Brennan responded by pointing to career professionals in the DOJ, CIA, and other agencies who are refusing to participate in what he termed “politically motivated prosecutions” and activities he believes exceed the proper authorities of these institutions.

Brennan emphasized these officials must rely on their “professional responsibilities” and the court system to check executive power. He warned that recent developments would cause “longstanding damage” to American institutions. The former intelligence chief spoke with confidence about these internal resistance efforts, suggesting they represent a coordinated response across multiple agencies rather than isolated incidents.

Federal Investigation Underway

Brennan himself faces scrutiny as a target in the ongoing grand jury investigation into Russiagate activities centered in South Florida. The probe, led by US Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones in the Southern District of Florida, also examines former FBI Director James Comey’s role in the controversial investigation. CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred both men for potential prosecution last summer over their involvement in the Russia investigation that dominated Trump’s first term.

Constitutional Questions Emerge

The admission raises fundamental questions about executive authority and the role of career bureaucrats in implementing presidential directives. While federal employees take oaths to the Constitution rather than individual presidents, the acknowledgment of organized resistance within agencies tasked with national security and law enforcement represents an unusual public declaration. Critics argue such resistance undermines democratic accountability and the authority of elected officials, while supporters contend it represents necessary checks on potential abuse of power. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between the executive branch and elements of the permanent federal workforce.
